Microcement Radiant Floor

Microcement Application on Radiant Floor

MICROCEMENT RADIANT FLOOR – When winter arrives is when you consider changing the heating of your house. Today, underfloor heating is one of the most popular options due to the comfort it provides. The question would be, can microcement be applied on underfloor heating? The answer is yes, microcement is a great thermal conductor and can be installed without any problem on a radiant floor.

It must be taken into account that the installation of microcement on underfloor heating requires following a series of precautions. The goal is to ensure that changes in temperature will not affect it.

Surface Preparation

The first thing to do is check that the floor has the expansion joints that correspond to the underfloor heating. This is necessary to prevent it from cracking later, causing the surface to crack.

It should be noted that microcement does not need expansion joints, but structural joints must be respected.

After a complete setting of the cement (3 or 4 weeks) comes the installation of the self-leveling or any material chosen to regularize the floor. The thickness must be sufficient to be able to absorb all the irregularities of the screed.

Once everything is completely dry, the heating will start. The process to follow will be to gradually raise the temperature day by day up to 45 degrees. This will cause possible cracks in the floor to come out before the application of the microcement. Cracks are repaired and the process continues.

Microcement in Radiant Floor

When the floor has fully expanded, it is time to apply the microcement. The conditions for the application are the same as other installations, maximum ambient temperature of 20 ºC and relative humidity as low as possible. The surface must be free of grease and dirt.

Once we have finished applying the microcement and varnishing, we will wait until it is completely dry before turning on the heating. To turn it on, it is necessary to increase the temperature progressively until the desired temperature is reached. To turn it off, you will act in the same way, gradually reducing the temperature.

In this way we can enjoy a completely natural and very resistant floor, and at the same time that the energy efficiency is very high. Keep in mind that by having a layer of only 3mm, it absorbs very little energy, which means that all the heat generated reaches the house.
